Leonid Polishchuk, a member of the “EcoNetwork” team, participated in the workshop “Allied Voices for LGBTQ+ People,” which took place from November 22-24 in Lviv.

Sixteen young activists from ten regions of Ukraine gathered for three intense days, diving into issues related to human rights, effective activism, and support for LGBTQ+ people.

Key highlights:

  • An expert on inclusion and diversity shared the history of the LGBTQ+ movement in Ukraine and the main challenges faced by LGBTQ+ people, offering practical tools for fighting discrimination.
  • A veteran and anti-aircraft gunner discussed his journey into activism, from personal experiences of discrimination to the motivation to support LGBTQ+ people.
  • The author of the books “Nashe. Spil’ne” (Our Shared) and “Pro shcho movchat’” (What They Keep Silent About) revealed the secrets of storytelling and explained how allyship can drive social change.

During the workshop, participants worked on creating a PDF guide titled “Painting Ukraine Without Discrimination.”

The workshop became a safe space for allies of LGBTQ+ people. These three days were filled with inspiration, bold ideas, and a sense that together we can change society for the better. Participants demonstrated that true power lies in allyship.
