An online support group on “The psychology of representation. When you are seen through an image rather than as a person” was held
On June 8, 2026, the Mentally.one team held an online support group on the topic “The Psychology of Representation: When You Are Seen Through an Image Rather Than as a Person.” The session was facilitated by psychologist Zhanna, who invited participants to explore the impact of social perceptions, stereotypes, and labels on self-perception and interactions with others.
During the meeting, participants discussed situations in which people are perceived through a particular image, social category, or stereotype, while their individuality, personal experiences, and unique qualities remain unnoticed. Special attention was given to how such processes can affect self-esteem, feelings of acceptance, and psychological well-being.
The group provided a space for open discussion of personal experiences related to representation, social expectations, and the pressure to conform to certain images. Participants shared their thoughts and experiences, reflected on how societal perceptions influence their lives, and explored ways to stay connected to their authentic identities.
The session also addressed themes of authenticity, self-acceptance, and the right to be oneself regardless of external expectations. Participants had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of their needs and identify internal resources that can support them in situations involving misunderstanding or prejudice.
The meeting took place in an atmosphere of trust, openness, and mutual support. Participants had the opportunity to be heard, share their experiences, and discover new perspectives on issues that are important to them.
We would like to thank all participants for their sincerity, active engagement, and willingness to take part in open dialogue. Meetings like these help people better understand themselves, strengthen self-respect, and build more conscious relationships with themselves and the world around them.
