A member of EcoNet became the first person in Ukraine to inject pre-exposure prophylaxis
Leonid Polishchuk, a member of PO “Ecological Network of Ukraine” became the first person in Ukraine and in the same time a first representative of the high-risk group of MSM/LGBTIQ, who became the first patient for long-acting injectable prophylaxis (CAB-LA).
The first injection was ceremoniously issued in hospital number 5 of the city of Kyiv (AIDS center) on 15 th of August 2024.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the CDC, Center for Public Health, Alliance for Public Health, ALLIANCE.GLOBAL, PEPFAR and other institutions and organisations.
The team of Leonid Polishuk has filmed video materials about the first injection and is preparing videos for distribution in Tiktok and Instagram social networks. In this way, Leonid Polishuk will show by his example the safety of contact prevention of the injectable form of PrEP and will call representatives of the vulnerable group of MSM/LGBTIQ to use innovative methods of prevention of HIV infection.
CAB-LA (Cabotegravir long active) is a first PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) and only long-acting, injectable PrEP for reducing the risk of getting HIV.
APRETUDE is given every other month by a healthcare provider after initiation injections have been given 1 month apart for 2 consecutive months. Stay under a provider’s care while receiving APRETUDE. You must receive it as scheduled. If you will miss a scheduled injection by more than 7 days, call your provider right away.
