Leonid Polishchuk a member of EcoNet Ukraine took a part of UkrainePride performance with Ukanian singer Olya Polyakova
Today, at a concert of the Ukrainian pop singer, a performance was organized – an LGBTQ+ flag was brought to the stage and handed over to the singer during the songs.
The singer Olga Polyakova received the flag from LGBTQ+ people and voiced her support for the LGBTQ+ community to the large audience in the “Palace of Sports.” One of the people who brought the flag to the stage was a member of the “Ecological Network of Ukraine,” Leonid Polishchuk.
The performance was organized by the friendly LGBTQ+ organization “Ukraine Pride,” and it was successful without causing any negative reactions from the audience.
Members of the “Ecological Network of Ukraine,” Andrii Bogoslavets and Leonid Polishchuk, met with Olga Polyakova after the concert and recorded an interview with the singer, asking relevant questions about LGBT+ rights and mental health for communities during wartime.
It is worth noting that the “Ecological Network of Ukraine” organization was created by representatives of the LGBTQ+ community, and one of the organization’s activities is advocating for human rights, including the rights of LGBTQ+ communities. This includes the right to ecological (in context of non-toxical) attitude the right to ecological relationships, and the right to ecological support for mental health.
The level of homophobia in Ukraine remains consistently high, affecting all spheres of life for LGBTQ+ people. Homophobia in Ukraine generates hate speech, hatred, hate crimes, discrimination, and stigma, as well as internal stigma (self-stigma) among LGBTQ+ people, significantly worsening their quality of life. Ukrainian human rights organizations regularly conduct actions to support visibility and highlight societal issues.
