Members and consultants of EcoNet Ukraine has participate in KyivPride 2024
Today, in the center of Ukraine’s capital, KyivPride 2024 took place – an event orginized by the LGBT community with two key demands:
- Bill #9103 on registered partnerships, which will allow same-sex couples to register their relationships.
- Bill #5488 on counteracting violence based on homophobia and transphobia.
Fulfilling these demands does not cost the state money, but only requires a few votes in parliament and the President’s signature.
These voiced demands aim to ensure the right to family and safety.
People should not be subjected to discrimination based on sexual orientation.
Equality of rights is what European Ukraine is striving for, and as a nation, we will do everything to achieve it.
This year’s pride took place for the first time since the start of the full-scale war. Due to enhanced security measures in the country, the number of participants was limited to 500, as was the march route. Pre-war marches gathered 7,000 people, and the route spanned several kilometers.
This year’s pride included LGBT military personnel, embassy representatives, and public organizations. There were also demands for the allocation of weapons, and one hundred foreign diplomats witnessed this.
Special thanks to the Kyiv City State Administration for their constructive position on holding the Pride, and to the National Police of Ukraine for ensuring safety.
