Psychological Support Group “Loneliness Among People”
On February 1, the first psychological support group for community youth in 2026 took place. It was dedicated to the theme of loneliness among people — more precisely, the state in which we are not formally alone, yet internally lack a space where we can truly be ourselves.
During the session, participants explored how experiences of inner isolation are formed in relationships, why a sense of pseudo-closeness sometimes emerges, and how internal censorship affects the ability to express oneself openly. Special attention was given to the phenomenon of socially sanctioned loneliness — situations in which a person seems to “fit in” with social expectations while simultaneously losing contact with their own feelings and needs.
The group worked in a safe format with clear rules of confidentiality, mutual respect, and a focus on personal experience. Through discussions, reflective questions, and practical exercises, participants had the opportunity to:
- notice their own ways of “disappearing” in relationships;
- recognize with whom and in which contexts it becomes possible to be oneself, at least partially;
- explore experiences of genuine closeness without masks;
- imagine or visualize a space in which one can be present without the need to adapt or perform.
The final stage of the group — a closing reflection circle — held particular value for participants, as everyone was able to articulate their own insights and feelings. For many, this meeting became an opportunity to view loneliness not only as pain, but also as a signal pointing to important inner needs and personal boundaries.
Support groups are part of a broader, systematic effort to provide psychological support for young people and to create safe spaces where difficult experiences can be discussed without judgment or haste.
