A psychological support group on the topic “Healthy and Wounded Narcissism” was held in Kyiv

On May 18, a group meeting on the topic “Healthy and Wounded Narcissism” took place in Kyiv .
The event brought together young participants eager to better understand themselves, their inner conflicts, and the influence of social environments on self-esteem.

Over the course of two hours, participants, together with the facilitator, explored how modern culture—particularly social media—shapes narcissistic traits, how healthy narcissism differs from its deficient counterpart, and how these relate to the inner critic, envy, and feelings of inadequacy. Special attention was given to the psychological concept of the “shadow” and a symbolic interpretation of the myth of Narcissus.

Following an introductory circle and the establishment of a safe space, participants shared personal achievements they felt proud of. This fostered an atmosphere of trust and self-reflection. Next, they worked in pairs, discussing personal limitations and manifestations of their inner critic, examining how these affect their self-perception.

Practical exercises titled “Weapon” and “Shadow” helped symbolically process those aspects of the self that are often rejected or associated with shame. This experience enabled participants not only to become more aware of their “shadow,” but also to begin transforming and integrating parts of it, taking a step toward deeper self-acceptance.

At the end of the session, participants shared insights and received recommendations for further reading and self-development. Individual discussions were offered for those with personal inquiries extending beyond the group topic.

This group became a safe space for an honest encounter with the self. The psychological work participants engaged in was a significant step toward wholeness, self-worth, and greater empathy for themselves.
